COVID Vaccine Coverage Continues Despite Advisory Panel's Rejection!
by Alan Iverson in HealthDrugstores are prepared to distribute updated COVID-19 vaccines this fall, and insurance companies plan to cover them, despite a government advisory panel's decision against recommending the shots. A panel chosen by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. declined to explicitly endorse the vaccines but stated that individuals could decide for themselves. While these recommendations typically lead to insurance coverage and pharmacy distribution, insurers and officials confirm coverage will continue, and numerous states allow pharmacy access. Many individuals seek vaccinations in late summer/early fall for winter protection. Insurers, including major players like those in America's Health Insurance Plans (excluding UnitedHealthcare, which also offers coverage), will cover the shots at no cost through 2026. Large employers may decide independently. Pharmacies, where about two-thirds of adults receive COVID-19 shots, are stocked with the latest vaccines. CVS and Walgreens will administer the shots, with prescriptions required in some states. The FDA approved the shots for those 65 and older, and younger individuals with high-risk conditions. CVS and Walgreens will inquire about eligibility factors but won't require proof. The vaccines are intended to help prevent costly hospitalizations from severe COVID-19.
