The Pentagon has released a trove of previously undisclosed files on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs), featuring mysterious sightings by astronauts like Buzz Aldrin and detailed military reports of objects performing impossible maneuvers. While the government encourages the public to draw its own conclusions, experts caution against misinterpretation, and a recent report debunked claims of recovered alien technology.

The Trump Republican administration has launched a new Pentagon website, complete with a retro design, to house declassified documents on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs), previously known as UFOs. These files, which the government describes as 'unresolved' and in some cases 'never-before-seen,' include old State Department cables, FBI documents, and NASA transcripts detailing numerous mysterious sightings. Notable incidents highlighted include astronaut Buzz Aldrin observing a 'fairly bright light source' during Apollo 11, a Tajik pilot and three Americans witnessing a brightly lit UAP making '90-degree turns, corkscrews and maneuvering in circles' over Kazakhstan in 1994, and a 2023 military report from the Aegean Sea detailing a UAP making 'multiple 90-degree turns at an estimated 80 mph.' Other accounts describe a 'super-hot' orb, a 'linear object' with intense light, a 'football-shaped object,' and a 'bouncy ball' object traveling at 483 mph over Syria. The release also features over 20 video files from military sensors globally, showing objects ranging from fast-moving specks to triangular formations, and hundreds of pages of reports dating back to the 1940s. While the public is invited to draw its own conclusions, experts like former AARO director Sean Kirkpatrick warn that the unanalyzed release could fuel speculation and pseudoscience, noting that UAP videos are often misinterpreted. A 2024 Pentagon report has already rebutted claims of recovered alien technology or confirmed alien life. The release, while significant, has also sparked calls for even greater transparency from some members of Congress and research groups like The Sol Foundation, who advocate for a thorough review of all classified UAP records to provide the public with the 'full truth' about non-human technologies. This initiative builds on years of declassification efforts, including the creation of a congressional office in 2022 dedicated to this task.
