Herndon claimed Love scammed her out of $7,000 sent via Apple Pay for an investment, and an additional $3,000 in cash. She faced significant difficulties serving Love, alleging he had no permanent address, purposefully stayed in hotels and Airbnbs to evade justice, and blocked her on phone and social media. To find him, Herndon created a Facebook group comprised of his alleged victims and even contacted an ex-girlfriend. She eventually gained court permission to serve Love electronically via Instagram and text, due to his continued online presence. The court ultimately awarded Herndon just over $10,000. This individual case highlights a broader federal investigation where Love is accused of posing as a 49ers player and wealthy investor to romance-scam 26 women across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California, collectively defrauding them of approximately $1.3 million.
