The new horror thriller "Him" tackles the intense pressure and almost religious fervor surrounding American football, particularly the quarterback position. While offering a stylish and satirical perspective on the subject, the film's focus on a single, repetitive theme ultimately detracts from its potential. The movie centers on Cam Cade, a young quarterback prospect who encounters a strange spirit and is invited to train with his idol, the enigmatic Isaiah White, at his isolated compound. The training becomes a surreal and violent psychodrama, pushing Cam to his limits. However, by confining the action to the compound, "Him" loses the grand scope of the football world, failing to capture the energy of stadiums and fans. Despite some stylistic choices and a potent premise, the film's repetitive nature and limited setting hinder its overall impact, leaving it feeling like a gladiator movie without the Colosseum.
