New York Jets cornerback and special teams standout Kris Boyd was critically injured in a shooting in midtown Manhattan early Sunday, according to Mayor Eric Adams’ office. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. outside a business on West 38th Street near 7th Avenue. Boyd, 29, was shot in the abdomen and taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Mayor Adams confirmed Boyd's identity and posted a message on social media praying for Boyd and his loved ones, emphasizing the need to end gun violence. A Jets spokesperson stated they are aware of the situation but have no further comment at this time. Boyd hasn't played this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 due to a shoulder injury requiring surgery. He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of the revamped special teams unit. Teammates, including linebacker Jermaine Johnson and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, have posted on social media asking for prayers for Boyd's recovery. Boyd was regarded as a special teams standout during his first six NFL seasons, playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans.
