Mike Gundy, the longtime Oklahoma State football coach, has been fired. Gundy, 58, spent over 30 years with the Cowboys as a player, assistant coach, and head coach, achieving a 170-90 record. While he led the team to numerous successful seasons and bowl appearances, including a Big 12 championship in 2011, recent struggles, including a nine-game losing streak last season and a poor start to this season, ultimately led to his dismissal. Oklahoma State Athletic Director Chad Weiberg expressed gratitude for Gundy's contributions but cited the need for a change. Doug Meacham, the offensive coordinator, has been named interim head coach. Gundy's tenure was marked by both success on the field and controversies, including a past apology for using the term "Chinese Virus" and wearing a One America News Network shirt. The changing landscape of college football, with the transfer portal and NIL deals, also played a role in the decision.
