A Los Angeles resident's life was turned upside down when he discovered a massive 550lb black bear had moved into the small basement beneath his house, leading to a bizarre and challenging eviction.
Last November, after spotting a bear rummaging through his bins, the author was shocked to discover the same massive bear had squeezed into a tiny opening and taken up residence under his house. Despite initial disbelief and growing anxiety, various attempts to scare the bear away with noise and 'bad neighbor fratboy energy' failed, as the bear seemed to settle in deeper. The situation escalated with the involvement of the Department of Fish and Wildlife, who tried unsuccessfully to trap the bear with different baits. Eventually, the media got involved, and the bear, known locally as 'Unbearable' or 'Volkswagen,' became a neighborhood sensation. The impossible was achieved when the Bear League successfully scared the bear out using paintball guns with vegetable oil pellets. Though the bear is gone, it left behind significant damage, and the author has mixed feelings, wishing it well but relieved to have his home back.
