A 19-year-old college freshman, attempting to fly from Boston to Texas for Thanksgiving, was deported to Honduras in violation of a federal court order, according to her attorney.
Any Lucia Lopez Belloza, a 19-year-old Babson College student, was detained at Boston Logan International Airport on November 20 after an issue with her boarding pass. She was subsequently deported to Honduras, the country she left at age 7, within two days. Her attorney, Todd Pomerleau, stated that Lopez Belloza was unaware of any removal order, and records he found indicated her case was closed in 2017, contradicting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's claim of a 2015 deportation order. The deportation occurred despite a federal judge issuing an emergency order prohibiting her removal from Massachusetts or the United States for at least 72 hours. Lopez Belloza, now with her grandparents in Honduras, expressed profound heartbreak, stating her college dream has been shattered.
