A 20-year-old Yeshiva University student was violently punched and kicked by four masked individuals in a Washington Heights subway station on Thursday night, an incident the university described as an unbiased attempted robbery.
A Yeshiva University student was subjected to a violent assault by several 'masked thugs' at the West 181st Street and St. Nicholas Avenue 1 train station in Washington Heights on Thursday night, just after 7 p.m. Police responded to a 911 call reporting the incident, where the 20-year-old student was punched and kicked by four unidentified individuals. Rabbi Dovid Bashevkin, a professor at Yeshiva, expressed his alarm, stating the event was 'beyond frightening for a visibly Jewish community in NYC.' However, Yeshiva University clarified that the attack was not believed to be motivated by bias, describing it as an 'unbiased attempted robbery.' The victim was transported to Columbia University Irving Medical Center in stable condition and has since returned to campus in good condition. As of Thursday evening, no arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation by law enforcement authorities, with YU Security coordinating efforts.
