Arthur Jones, a former NFL defensive lineman and Super Bowl winner with the Baltimore Ravens, has died at the age of 39. His alma mater, Syracuse, and the Ravens confirmed his passing, but did not disclose a cause of death.
Arthur Jones, a defensive lineman who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and was a Super Bowl XLVII champion, has died at 39. Syracuse, Jones' alma mater, announced his death on Friday morning, with neither the school nor the Ravens providing a cause. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta remembered Jones for his 'big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity.' Jones was a fifth-round draft pick in 2010 and recorded 8 1/2 of his 10 career sacks during the 2012-13 seasons. He played a pivotal role in the Ravens' Super Bowl win, sacking 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and recovering a fumble. After Baltimore, he played two years for Indianapolis and a final season in Washington in 2017. Jones was also the older brother of former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and NFL Pro Bowler Chandler Jones. At Syracuse, he set a school record with 38 1/2 tackles for loss for an interior defensive lineman and was a first-team All-Big East selection in his final two seasons.
