U.S. Sen. John Fetterman experienced a 'ventricular fibrillation flare-up' during an early morning walk, causing him to feel light-headed and fall. His office reported he sustained minor facial injuries and is hospitalized in Pittsburgh for routine observation while doctors fine-tune his medication regimen. Ventricular fibrillation is the most serious form of abnormal heartbeat, potentially leading to cardiac arrest, and is associated with cardiomyopathy, a condition Fetterman was diagnosed with in 2022. Fetterman, 56, also suffered a stroke in 2022 due to atrial fibrillation and subsequently had a pacemaker with a defibrillator implanted. He continues to experience auditory processing disorder from the stroke and sought treatment for clinical depression in 2023.
