A 91-year-old Rhode Island man was attacked by a raccoon while getting his mail, leading to a costly rabies vaccine not covered by his insurance.
Hal Hamilton, a 91-year-old man from Barrington, Rhode Island, was viciously attacked by a raccoon while walking to his mailbox. The animal pounced on him, causing him to lose balance. Hamilton managed to defend himself by hitting the raccoon with his cane, causing it to flee. Initially unaware of his injuries, he later discovered puncture marks on his pants and two fang marks on his calf. After being turned away from urgent care, he obtained a rabies vaccine at CVS, which unfortunately cost him over $400 as it was not covered by his insurance.
