Jonathan Joss, a voice actor best known for his role as John Redcorn in the animated series "King of the Hill," was fatally shot in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday. Police responded to a shooting call and found the 59-year-old wounded near his home. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, confirmed his death and stated that the shooter yelled homophobic slurs before opening fire. De Gonzales said that earlier in the evening, they were checking their mail when a man approached them and threatened them with a gun. Joss pushed de Gonzales out of the way before being shot. Police arrested 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja and charged him with murder. While police initially stated that their investigation found no evidence linking the murder to Joss's sexual orientation, de Gonzales maintains it was a hate crime. Joss's death occurred just days after he participated in events related to the upcoming "King of the Hill" revival. A GoFundMe was set up earlier this year to help Joss recover from a house fire that killed his three dogs.
