The highly anticipated sequel to 'The Devil Wears Prada' arrives, bringing back Andy Sachs and Miranda Priestly to a vastly changed fashion world, where Runway magazine battles digital trends, budget cuts, and new societal demands.
Twenty years after the original film, 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' sees the return of Andrea 'Andy' Sachs (Anne Hathaway), Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), Nigel (Stanley Tucci), and Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt). Andy, now an award-winning writer, is laid off and reluctantly accepts a position as features editor back at Runway magazine. However, the iconic publication is a shadow of its former self, grappling with drastically reduced budgets, the demands of the digital age, and the fickle tastes of a teen customer base. Miranda Priestly, though still formidable, is forced to pay lip service to body positivity and diversity, even flying coach and receiving language lessons from her new assistant, Amari. Meanwhile, Andy's old nemesis, Emily Charlton, has risen to become the powerful head of Dior, asserting the recession-proof nature of ultra-luxury brands. The sequel, helmed by the original screenwriter and director, offers a fun and buoyant return to the beloved universe, revisiting classic scenes and even bringing back Andy's infamous blue polyblend sweater. While praised for its humor and the return of the beloved cast, the film's narrative is somewhat hampered by Andy's uninspired new romance. The movie is set to be released on April 30 in Australia, and May 1 in the UK and US.
