A 4.3 magnitude earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay Area early Monday morning, waking thousands of residents. The quake, centered east-southeast of Berkeley, caused minor damage, including broken windows and fallen merchandise in some Berkeley stores. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) reported system-wide delays due to safety inspections. While many felt the shaking, including residents as far south as Salinas (100 miles away), authorities reported no significant injuries or major damage. Experts noted that earthquakes in the 4-magnitude range are not typically hazardous. First responders are assessing the situation, and further updates are expected.
