They face numerous UK charges, including rape and human trafficking involving seven alleged victims, with Andrew facing 42 counts and Tristan 17. Andrew also faces allegations related to indecent images of children and extreme pornography. Both brothers, who deny all allegations, testified at the hearing, arguing they needed to be free to fight their case and communicate with their Romanian lawyer. Prosecutors countered that the Tates, known for boasting about wealth and multiple passports on social media, posed a significant flight risk. Their defense argued these boasts were exaggerated for online business promotion and that the UK allegations are old and unproven. The brothers are also under criminal investigation in Romania, with Andrew indicted in early September for trafficking minors, money laundering, sex with a minor, and witness tampering, and Tristan for complicity. UK authorities have until September 16 to submit a formal extradition request, and no date has been set for an extradition hearing.
