Mark Fuhrman, the former Los Angeles police detective convicted of perjury during the O.J. Simpson murder trial, has died at the age of 74 in Idaho.

Mark Fuhrman, the former Los Angeles police detective whose testimony and subsequent perjury conviction became a pivotal point in the O.J. Simpson murder trial, died on May 12 at 74. Lynn Acebedo, chief deputy coroner in Kootenai County, Idaho, confirmed his death but did not release the cause. Fuhrman was a central figure in the Simpson case, where his credibility was severely damaged by his racist remarks, which Alan Dershowitz, a legal strategist for Simpson's defense, stated ultimately helped them win the case. Following Simpson's 1995 acquittal, Fuhrman retired from the Los Angeles Police Department and moved to Idaho, where he established a 20-acre farm. In 1996, he pleaded no contest to perjury charges. He later transitioned into a career as a TV and radio commentator and authored the book 'Murder in Brentwood' about the killings. His death follows that of O.J. Simpson, who passed away in April 2024. Kato Kaelin, another witness from the Simpson trial, acknowledged Fuhrman's death, remarking on their lives being 'indelibly linked' through the deeply complex and painful chapter of the trial. Fuhrman's early life included caring for his younger brother after his father left, before he joined the Marines and subsequently the Los Angeles Police Department.
