Two-time WNBA champion Kara Braxton, 43, passed away after being involved in a car crash in Atlanta on Saturday. The WNBA, along with her former teams, expressed deep sorrow over her death. Braxton, who had just celebrated her birthday the previous week, was a 10-season veteran who played for the Detroit Shock, Tulsa Shock, Phoenix Mercury, and New York Liberty. The 6-foot-6 center was drafted seventh overall by Detroit in 2005, earning All-Rookie honors that season. She played a significant part in the Detroit Shock's championship teams. Her career also saw her play for the Tulsa Shock, Phoenix Mercury, and New York Liberty, where she was waived in 2014. The Liberty acknowledged her lasting impact on the organization and the women's game. Before her WNBA career, Braxton was named SEC Freshman of the Year for Georgia in 2002. She is survived by her husband, Jarvis Jackson, and their young son, Jream.
