Flamethrower Attack Rocks Boulder! 8 Injured in "Free Palestine" Terrorist Act
by Andrew Ismail in TerrorismA 45-year-old man, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, used a makeshift flamethrower to attack a group demonstrating for Israeli hostages in Gaza, injuring eight people with burns. The attack, which the FBI is investigating as a terrorist act, occurred in Boulder, Colorado, on the first day of the Jewish holiday Shavuot. Soliman yelled "Free Palestine" during the attack. The victims ranged in age from 52 to 88, with injuries ranging from minor to serious. The suspect was arrested and is facing charges. The incident follows a recent increase in antisemitic violence in the US, and comes amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The New York Police Department increased its presence at religious sites in the city for Shavuot. The attack happened at the Pearl Street pedestrian mall and was captured on video by witnesses. One witness described hearing a crash, a boom, and people screaming. The suspect was seen throwing Molotov cocktails and appeared to accidentally set himself on fire while throwing one. He was apprehended without resistance. Authorities believe Soliman acted alone. The FBI Denver field office called the incident an example of how perpetrators of violence threaten communities. The Justice Department denounced the attack as a "needless act of violence". The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in significant casualties on both sides and the abduction of Israeli hostages.
