Overwhelmed by a 'perfect storm' of stress, a skeptical individual found relief from debilitating anxiety through a therapist's unconventional 'No Worry Time' rule, gradually regaining control and optimism.
In the latter half of 2011, the author experienced a period of intense stress from work, a fizzled romance, a mother's illness, and grief for their deceased father, plunging them into a state of high anxiety. Traditional coping mechanisms proved useless. After a struggle, they found a Norwegian therapist who introduced a radical concept: 'No Worry Time.' The therapist instructed the author to designate a period each evening, starting at 6:30 pm, during which worrying was strictly forbidden, likening anxiety to a bully that needed to be put in its place. Initially disbelieving and reluctant, the author gradually adopted this rule, starting with small victories and eventually extending the 'no worry' period until the next morning. This strategy, combined with talking therapy and healthy lifestyle changes, proved transformative, leading to a significant reduction in anxiety and a renewed sense of happiness and optimism. The author now views this technique as a powerful tool for taking control over anxiety and creating a 'worry-free zone' in life.
