As the new academic year approaches, international students in the US face a climate of fear and uncertainty due to the Trump administration's policies. Many describe how policy shifts have disrupted their academic plans, causing them to reconsider pursuing their education in the US. Students report nervousness about border crossings, fearing arbitrary detention despite having valid visas. The administration's actions include halting visa processing, revoking student statuses, expanding social media screenings, imposing travel bans, slashing research funding, and arresting students involved in activism. Harvard University is even embroiled in a legal battle with the White House over accusations of unconstitutional retaliation. A significant decline in international student interest is projected, potentially costing US universities billions of dollars annually. Iranian students are particularly affected by a travel ban, with many having their dreams of studying in the US dashed. Some have deferred enrollment, while others have sought opportunities in other countries, highlighting the US's potential loss of talent and goodwill.
