An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon killed five people, according to the Lebanese government. Israel's military claimed responsibility, stating they targeted a Hezbollah operative but acknowledged that several uninvolved civilians were also killed. Initial reports by Lebanese officials claimed four US citizens, a father and his three children, were among the dead, with the mother critically injured. However, the US State Department disputed these claims, stating that indications suggest the victims were not US citizens. The strike involved two missiles fired from a drone at a motorcycle and a car. Lebanese officials condemned the attack as a "massacre" and a violation of international law, urging international condemnation. UNICEF also expressed outrage over the killing of three children. The incident occurred despite a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah last November. The attack followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's comments about "victories in Lebanon" that enabled peace talks with Syria.
