U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost was assaulted and punched in the face by a man making racist remarks at a Sundance Film Festival party in Park City, Utah; the assailant has been arrested.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost, the first Gen Z member of Congress, was reportedly punched in the face by 28-year-old Christian Joel Young at a private party during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Frost stated on X that Young, who allegedly made racist remarks and threatened him with deportation by Donald Trump, was arrested after drunkenly fleeing the scene. The incident occurred at the High West Distillery, a popular venue for festival events. Young faces charges including aggravated burglary, assaulting an elected official, and assault, and is accused of crashing the party and grabbing a woman. He is being held without bail due to prior convictions and deemed a flight risk or danger to the community. The Sundance Film Festival strongly condemned the assault, emphasizing that such behavior goes against their values, despite the event being non-affiliated. Both Utah Governor Spencer Cox and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries denounced the attack, calling for justice and condemning political/racially charged violence.
