Indiana has achieved its first-ever No. 1 ranking in the AP Top 25 college football poll after an undefeated regular season and a Big Ten championship win, dethroning Ohio State.
For the first time in program history, Indiana has climbed to the No. 1 position in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll. The Hoosiers secured the unanimous top spot after an undefeated 13-0 regular season and a 13-10 victory over Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game, ending the Buckeyes' 14-week reign at No. 1. This historic achievement also grants Indiana the top seed for their second consecutive College Football Playoff appearance. Georgia moved up to No. 2 after defeating Alabama in the SEC title game, while defending national champion Ohio State slipped to No. 3. Texas Tech rose to No. 4 after winning the Big 12 championship, and Oregon rounds out the top five. Miami returned to the top 10, moving up two spots to No. 10. Among Group of Five teams, Tulane jumped four spots to No. 17, its highest ranking in two years. Virginia took the biggest fall, dropping from No. 16 to No. 20 after an ACC championship game loss. This marks a remarkable turnaround for Indiana, which had never been ranked higher than No. 2 before and had a history of significant losses prior to Coach Curt Cignetti's arrival.
