The Trump administration's mass-deportation efforts expanded to Los Angeles with pre-dawn raids on Saturday. This is part of a West Coast operation expected to continue for seven days a week. Immigration agents avoided areas heavily damaged by wildfires. The operation targets criminal migrants, fulfilling a campaign promise by President Trump. Details on the Los Angeles raids were limited, but those rounded up were held in ICE detention centers pending deportation. Overtime is expected for agents involved. Similar actions were reported in West New York, NJ. Executive orders have loosened restrictions on where immigration officers can conduct raids. The White House plans to use military planes daily for deportations. ICE reported arresting 593 criminal migrants and lodging 449 detainer requests with local authorities. While the number of Saturday arrests was unclear, ICE released names of previously apprehended criminal migrants, including alleged gang members and a drunk driver. Daily arrests of criminal migrants, including pedophiles, drug traffickers, gang members, and a suspected terrorist, have been occurring since Trump took office. A previous report of ICE agents entering a Chicago elementary school was corrected; the agents were actually Secret Service agents investigating a threat.
