Yolanda Saldivar, the woman who shot and killed Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, has been denied parole. A Texas parole board denied Saldivar's bid for freedom on Thursday, citing the violent nature of her crime and stating she poses an ongoing threat to society. Saldivar had been Selena's employee but was fired for embezzlement two weeks prior to the murder. Selena was 23 years old at the time of her death. Saldivar was convicted and is serving a life sentence. Her next parole hearing will be in March 2030. Selena's family released a statement applauding the decision, stating that while nothing can bring Selena back, the denial reaffirms that justice stands for Selena's life.

Eugene Henley Jr., also known as Big U, a co-founder of the Rollin' 60s Crips, surrendered to authorities following a federal RICO indictment. In an Instagram video, Big U stated he was turning himself in, calling the indictment "bull crap." He pleaded for prayers and asserted his innocence, claiming to have always done good and helped his family. He vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them "straight trash." Big U expressed gratitude for the support of his fans, while simultaneously accusing Wack 100 and 600 of orchestrating his arrest. He alleged that 600 collaborated with police during a raid on his house and that Wack 100 worked with the FBI and city officials to prevent him from receiving money. He argued that the FBI unfairly targets Black men trying to help their communities, framing his situation as a consequence of being Black and trying to uplift his neighborhood. The indictment includes charges of murder, human trafficking, and extortion. The murder charge stems from a January 2021 incident where Big U allegedly drove with another defendant, fatally shooting an aspiring rapper, and disposing of the body in the desert. A press conference by the U.S. Attorney's Office announced the arrest of 10 individuals, including rappers Bricc Baby and Luce Cannon. Big U, in his video, claimed he didn't associate with these rappers and anticipated their testimony against him. Despite the charges, he maintained his innocence and confidence in being cleared.

The parents of Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student missing in the Dominican Republic, have formally requested authorities declare their daughter dead. Their request comes despite the fact that Konanki's body has not been found. The family sent a letter to Dominican authorities stating they believe there was no foul play involved in her disappearance from a Punta Cana beach on March 6. They cited the cooperation of Joshua Riibe, the last person to see Konanki alive, with investigators. Riibe, a 22-year-old college student from Iowa, has been described as a person of interest but has not been charged with any wrongdoing. His lawyer is seeking his release from police surveillance, arguing that his passport has been seized despite him not being officially charged. Authorities initially suspected Konanki drowned, but later said they were not ruling out foul play. Riibe claims he and Konanki entered the ocean together, encountered rough water, and separated. He said he awoke on the beach without Konanki. Surveillance footage shows the pair together at a bar before her disappearance.
