Pakistan formally recommended Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, crediting his "decisive diplomatic intervention" in de-escalating the conflict between India and Pakistan earlier in 2023. The nomination cites Trump's "pivotal leadership" in May 2023, when heightened cross-border strikes threatened a major war between the two nuclear-armed nations. Islamabad and New Delhi agreed to a US-brokered truce on May 8th, following intense fighting in the disputed Kashmir region. While Pakistan praised Trump's involvement, India downplayed it. Trump himself later stated he did not expect to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for this or other diplomatic efforts, despite his self-proclaimed role as a global peacemaker. The nomination comes amidst ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, including the recent war between Israel and Iran, where Trump's potential involvement in military action remains uncertain.
