Ukraine announced on Tuesday that it had successfully targeted the Crimean Bridge, a vital supply route for Russian forces in the ongoing conflict. The SBU, Ukraine's security service, claimed responsibility, stating that they used 1,100 kilograms of explosives planted underwater to damage the bridge's supporting pillars. This marks the third attack on the bridge since the start of the full-scale war in 2022. The operation, which took several months to plan, involved mining the bridge's piers and detonating the explosives. While traffic was temporarily suspended, the extent of the damage remains unclear. The SBU head, Vasyl Malyuk, emphasized that the bridge is a legitimate military target due to its use in supplying Russian troops. This attack follows a recent SBU drone strike on Russian airfields, which allegedly caused significant damage to Russian bombers and cruise missile carriers. The Crimean Bridge holds significant symbolic value for Russia, having been built after the 2014 annexation of Crimea and opened by President Putin in 2018. The attacks highlight Ukraine's continued efforts to disrupt Russian logistics and undermine the symbolic importance of the bridge.
